The Yamaguchi University Alumni Association was established in April 2008 after changing the name from the prior organization ‘Federation of Yamaguchi University Alumni Association’ which was established in 1999.

Yamaguchi University was founded in 1949 as a university under the new system through the integration of the former government-run institutions of higher education in the prefecture. Rather than merging the alumni associations, each faculty inherited its own history and traditions, and has been active in promoting friendship and exchanges with alumni.

However the situation surrounding the university changes dramatically year by year, to sustainably fulfill its responsibilities as a key university in the region, not only the support by the staff and students who make up the university, but also support by the alumni is essential.

In 1999, when Yamaguchi University celebrated its 50th anniversary, the “Federation of Yamaguchi University Alumni Association” was established to encourage interaction between faculty alumni groups and to contribute to the development of the university, which name was later changed to “Yamaguchi University Alumni Association”.

When the Federation of Alumni Associations was first established, it consisted of nine alumni associations, including eight faculty (department) alumni associations and the Technical Management Association (Graduate School of Technology Management).
