Medical Informatics and Decision Sciences is one of the departments of central facilities, which supports communication of medical staff and integration of specialized clinical divisions, to achieve problem solving for patients admitted to Yamaguchi University Hospital. We support physicians in making decisions using order entry and patient profile systems, which provide seamless information transmission to medical staff, such as nurses, laboratory technologists, pharmacists, clinical clerks, etc. The alert and reminder systems assist our clinical practices in safety and quality. The bedside confirming system by PDA (Personal Data Assistants) enables us to confirm a physicians order even if the order was changed just before the patient is to receive treatment.
For the patients, all of his or her data in the hospital is integrated as if they were in one database system, and every staff member shares the electronic patient records and gives clinical services under this seamless information platform.
