The Advanced Medical Emergency and Critical Care Center (AMEC3) is the “Highly Advanced Emergency Center” which is the first one in national university hospitals in Japan. The number of our active staffs are 69 including 18 doctors, 50 nurses, and 1 medical engineering technologist. The center has 10 ICU beds, and 10 HCU beds. The center accepts patients all day long, seven days a week. We take care of the patients of all ages suffering from life threatening conditions in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The number of the patients is approximately one thousand per year, suffering from severe trauma, burn, poisoning, heart attack, stroke, and so on. Educational activities are wide-ranging including education of resident physicians, medical students, nurses and paramedics. In our center, advanced intensive treatments including therapeutic brain hypothermia, blood purification in severe acute insults are performed. The flight of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service started as a base hospital in January,2011.
